My Why
What powers my practice
From an early age, I knew the law would be my calling. What began as an interest in public service evolved into a passion for helping people navigate complex challenges. Today, I guide clients through some of the most difficult moments of their professional lives—whether protecting a business, preserving a license, or defending their reputation. My approach goes beyond legal strategy; I strive to provide clarity, reassurance, and respect at every step. At the heart of my practice is a commitment to treating clients as individuals and pursuing outcomes that reflect their goals and values.
Overview
Carrie is a seasoned healthcare attorney who regularly advises both established companies and healthcare innovators in regulatory compliance, credentialing, and reimbursement disputes. She acts as a strategic advisor to her clients and often serves as outside general counsel. Carrie draws on her extensive litigation experience when acting as an advisor to her healthcare and other clients and maintains an active litigation practice including appearances before state and federal courts and before regulatory agencies.
Experience
Solutions in action
Carrie works with start-up and established entrepreneurs on contracting, drafting and negotiating agreements and in building corporate compliance programs. She also drafts and negotiates clinical trial agreements, informed consents and other clinical development agreements. Her compliance experience includes frequent advice on compliance with the False Claims Act, including the Stark law and the Anti-Kickback Statute, and on compliance with Corporate Integrity Agreements. Carrie also has experience representing healthcare providers facing decredentialing by government and private payers.
Carrie is an experienced first-chair litigator who focuses on resolving disputes for her healthcare, business, and municipal clients. She approaches each case with a focus on her client’s goals and priorities, and develops strategies to obtain the best possible outcome, whether that means pursuing a jury verdict or seeking alternative dispute resolution through arbitration or mediation.
Carrie has significant experience defending individual healthcare providers as well as institutions in medical malpractice litigation, in administrative proceedings including licensing board actions and in reimbursement actions. Her clients include practitioners such as physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, nurse practitioners, dentists, and oral surgeons; providers including hospitals and clinics; and insurers. Carrie’s robust litigation practice also extends to litigation and licensing matters for other professionals. She represents lawyers, accountants, real estate brokers, and other licensed professionals in courtroom litigation and in matters before their respective licensing boards. Carrie has represented municipalities, government entities, and public officers in complex cases involving constitutional claims and issues of immunity. Her expertise as a trial lawyer has been recognized by her admission to the American Board of Trial Advocates.
Before joining Michael Best, Carrie was a partner in a national general practice law firm, where she served as Vice-Chair of her firm’s Healthcare and Behavioral Health practices and represented healthcare professionals, businesses, and other professionals in complex civil litigation matters.
